Don't know much about the tranny, I went with a C-6 auto, cause I couldn't find a 4x4 manual. But anyways the NP208 is a bitch to fit between the frame rails of a bronco ii. I tried and was going tht have to take a hell of a chunk out of the frame to center the rear output. i ended up with a NP205.

The 4.9 is the same as a 300 straight 6, the same guy wilber mentioned posted pictures and some tech info on TheRnangerStation too, you might be able to find it easier there. The 4.9 is an awesome engine, it has more torque than any stock V8 and they last forever usually. I've had 2 trucks with them...

back when I was choosing T-cases I was told that the J-shift was easier to adapt to go up through our floor, I ended up going with a NP205 behind a C6 and it went right through the old hole in the floor.
