can you take a picture of the gasket held up to the intake and a picture of the head with the gasket held up to it? when you gasket match an intake and head you typicly take a lot of material. so there is a chance you could use it.

I would hold up the gasket and see how much contact area you have. it's kind of a judgement call, but I would run it if you can get a good seal. are you going to have it cleaned? if so the machine shop you take it to can give you another opinion. that blue stuff works as RTV...I have put it where the cork meets the block and it works well. the cork never realy seals well

you could always just use the fiberglass method of building a template over the existing roof....

the ign. mod has nothing to do with base timing. it is the electronic control for the distributor. when they go bad it will do something similar to what you are saying and it is a known problem area with these motors.

the first part I would check would be the ignition modual on the side of the distributor. Auto zone can check it for you for free. it is on the side of the distributor. That and while you oare there have them pull codes for you. that is a free service too. make sure they test the modual several time...

I was taught by an older farmer...best way to learn. I always wear a long sleave shirt when grinding and drilling holes too. hot shavings do the same thing a splater from a welding rod.

yeah, they paid it. the worse part is our guy got the mechanic to admit the head was a bad design and that they were fixing tons of those. but they still wouldn't budge on the price.
