Re: Noise in Tranny
Guy said it was a 1992 ext cab ranger 4x4 with a 4.0 in it. and has the tall shifter. so,.......uh yea its probably the mazda tranny, not the mitsu. Would I need to change the pilot bearing? what about the starter location? is that the same?

Re: Noise in Tranny
How much would parts and tools cost to rebuild my bad transmission? It's goin to be sitting around and I'd like to learn how to do it. Suggest any books? Anybody tried?

The junkyard has an m5od-r1 they can take out for 250 with a 30 day warranty. Would my shifter on the 146 bolt into the shifte...

Re: Noise in Tranny
No junk yard around here has anything.... I found a couple of people who had m5od's from 4.0L '92 and 98' rangers. Did mazda make any changes to the R1 or is it the same bolt patterns all the way up to 2000?

Re: Oil pump
pour diesel fuel in my engine? WTF? lol I'd have to see it be done. Sounds crazy. The motor ticks pretty bad on the top end after driving 40 miles down the expressway at 70 mph. When I'm offroad it doesn't tick at all.

Re: Noise in Tranny
I owe you a beer. I got the fm146. The tranny shop told me $350 in labor if i bring it to them already off the truck, plus whatever parts they need. The junk yard said they could pull one out for me for $250. seems like a good deal. Now to see if they got a match....

Oil pump
I put a Mechanical oil pressure gauge in. When I start the engine, it goes up to 40-45 psi. once engine gets warm and idles it goes down to around 5 or 10. When i rev the engine to 3000 rpm's, pressure slooowly rises to 40 again. There's a lot of noise, mainly ticking, coming from the top end. think...

I didn't really look at it. The only other time i pulled a tranny was a 95 civic, and then i was mainly watching. What should it look like?

Re: Noise in Tranny
Did not check the play in the input shaft. When i put the new throwout bearing on, i unbolted the slave cylinder. i noticed grooves on almost half the inside of it. The input shaft has gooves covering it so i cleaned them both off and put it back together with out thinking too much of it.

Noise in Tranny
ok so I bought this 88 b2. had trouble shifting between gears so I put a new pilot bearing, throwout bearing, pressureplate, etc. and a new rear main seal in it. It was making a noise like cutting a quarter inch piece of steel with a bandsaw in every gear but fourth (which is quiet as can be) before...

Street Legality
I bought an 88 b2. had a k&n filter and flowmaster. I put a mech oil pressure gauge and new clutch kit and rear main seal. I buoght it as a toy (cheaper than a dirt bike, WAY cheaper than a four wheeler!) I wan't to mod it for offroading but need to keep it street legal. What kind of suggestions...
