A 90/91 Ranger is the easiest donor. When my 88 got a 4.0 last year the guy doing the wiring had it wired and running in under 3 hours, and that included a long lunch break.

Yes, thanks for the updates, so many times a problem is resolved and no one ever says what it was. This time it appears it was self inflicted wound, but the problem is resolved and that is what matters.

Best bang for the buck is a 4.0 swap. You'll need to get a complete wiring harness for this since your truck does not have a 'puter. It still would be the best swap. Second best would be a carbureted v8, if you have really deep pockets for fuel.

As said, a C5 is first best option. Only other option is walking. Contrary to popular belief the c5 is actually a stronger tranny than the c4 IF you put the V8 high clutch pack in. Also the very high stall 2.8 converter can be replaced with a converter from a 75-78 v8 MustangII. The snout needs to b...

You need to pull the dash panel out and disable the switch that turns compressoer on when using defrost. It could cause an excessive unneeded run.

OK, more info and closer pics required on those axles. First glance I thought they were birfields, now I have no idea what they are, but I know I want to know more!
