Al I'll probably keep my '87 B2 for a few more years too. I've been checking out pre-1996 (HATE those plastic wheel fenders on the 1996+ models) Toyota 4-Runners for my next 4x4. I like the body style, smaller size, VERY reliable (200,00+ easily if maintained), and solid performance. Downside is ...

Need New Balls (Rear Door Damper Hinge Balls)

I’m getting tired of using a piece of wood to hold up the rear door on my ’87 B2. I’ve seen the replacement dampers on eBay for ~$25, but my problem is the heim (hiem?) joint balls on the cab that the damper attaches to have rusted and broken off also. The L-shaped brackets appear to be tack welded o ...

baznicholson Direct replacement halogen bulbs are available as sealed beam units at most auto stores in the U.S. as part H6054 for less than $10 each. Additionally, significantly brighter aftermarket sealed beam units such as Sylvania Silver Stars are available (~$20 each). To go to a replacement ...

Glad to hear you are on the road.
Just curious though. . . the site lists your thank you post as your first and only post. What problem(s) did you solve, and what name did you post under?

Nobody I had already looked at LMC and JCW, and neither seems to have anything. But from the link you provided I went to the WLS Headliners site, and from their installation section was able to get a good idea of what's under the fabric and how it works. Thanks. Very helpful. (I thought the ...

Nobody - You posted it's possible (likely?) that just a low rpm diode circuit is burned out. Is this something that is included in the "alternator voltage regulator" unit that bolts to the back of the alternator? If so, it looks like this can be purchased by itself, for as little as $25. CraigK

High Output Alternators - Any Advantage?

My '87 B2 with 123,000 miles seems to have a weak alternator and electrical system (battery is fine). When the revs go up a bit, the headlights get significantly brighter, and the window motors work faster etc. than when at idle. I was looking at the 40W, 60W 100W and 140W alternators available ...

Roof "Creaking" Fix?

My '87 B2 interior roof "creaks", especially above the driver seat and with the window down, and much worse when it gets colder (now). It seems to be related to the foam lining rubbing slightly against the metal of the cab. Drives me nuts. Also, the surface cloth lining the cab roof has deteriorated ...

I have an '87 w/ the automatic. Currently getting 16 mpg, about the same mix of driving as you describe. At peak, I used to get 21 mph+, highway only. Perhaps with exhaust leak repair (manifold to Y-pipes) and new O2 sensor (currently disconnected), my mileage will improve?

Cold Start Idle Adjust?

I’m driving my’87 B2 more this fall than for the past few years, and a problem I’ve had is getting more annoying with the cold. This vehicle has always been a great starter, and fires up instantly. It just won’t stay running without a foot on the gas until it is well warmed-up. Which takes 5 minutes ...

yoyodyne I've never messed with my thermostat, but could you be installing it upside down? Maybe the bimetal functioning part is not on the engine side???? I had the same thing. I replaced the sending unit that screws in at the front/top of the motor. Wasn't very expensive, and works fine now.

Black Chrome Lug Nuts

Just thought I'd share this . . . I usually spend my time and $$$ on my '87 Bronco II just keeping it rolling, but last week when I did the rear brakes I noticed the chrome lug nuts were badly rusted and looked like shXt. Although my old rusty B2 isn't exactly a looker, I spent a few bucks and ...

Willie Two I can't answer your specific question regarding testing the unit, except to say that when I had a major engine issue (see old posts) it was instantly resolved when I simply disconnected the O2 sensor (took the clip off) and ran without it. Note that there were NO codes indicating a ...

Just re-read Nobody's post. Probably a special thermal gel on the TFI unit, NOT dielectric as I stated. (Been a while. Sorry.)
