well i finally drove it farther than circling around my neighborhood today, and i'm 99.9% sure it's the tranny goin south. i know i know, "god-damn newb needs to get his ears checked" haha. it sounds much more like gears slipping to catch (like the planetary and sun gears are fucked) than a chain ...

i don't know if they're different or not... but if the brake feel obviously changed after the swap it's either a different master cylinder, you sprang a leak, or an axle seal is bad. i almost got myself t-boned by an 18-wheeler because of an axle seal.

if you're using the ranger brakes, i'd use the ranger master cylinder also. would it be a problem to get that?

so if the chain doesn't move until 4wd's engaged, what DOES move in the transfer case in 2wd? and why is there a noise that sounds very very much like a chain slap...?

it's not the rear axles, or differential, or driveshaft. it's either the t-case or the transmission.

everything seems to be in good shape after the transfer case. i did however note two things when i jacked it up though:

i forgot how shitty it was to not have posi,

and the stock CV even LOOKS worthless.

but nothing's worn badly at all after the t-case. so... :wtf: ???

ok i just bought an '87 BII, automatic. got it at a steeeaaaal... anyway; when i put it into gear (any gear) from park it makes a harsh jump w/ a loud metal-to-metal sound effect. it also shifts fairly rough w/ less of the same sound effect. the guy i bought it from (old hippie named kurt) said his ...
