Re: Just got Bronco II need some advice
Guys, thanks for all you help. Its a 1984 5 speed manual. Cant remember the engine size off hand, but has, I think, the 4 inch raised suspension. It has overdrive (which I think is the 5th gear?), but since I have had no contact with that before, I have no idea what difference if at all it makes in...

Re: It finally broke.
Seeing what you are doing with the front shaft, I have a couple things to add. Look to see if your Tranny crossmember can mount in a lower spot. Mine had a choice of 2 different mounting heights and I used the lower one to lessen driveline angle. It's only like 2" but will make a difference. Se...

Re: It finally broke.
What size u-joints are on your shaft? Does it have the slip-joint on the shaft? Thanks The rear shaft I have is set up with the double cardan joint that bolts to the yoke on a 1350 T-case. The tail end has the larger slipjoint and flange to mate with the 8.8 rear diffy I put in. The length worked r...

Re: It finally broke.
I have the rear driveshaft you might like. I lifted mine by putting the rear springs under the frame rails and used an 8.8 rear diffy. This gave me approx 5-6" of lift with wipped flat springs and tons of rear flex. I have a double cardan shaft with the 8.8 flange at the tail end and it bolts r...

Re: What should I use???
Explorer axles (Dana 35 frt) is a direct swap and add about 2 inches hub to hub. Trim the body to clear the tires as needed. I lifted the back of my '84 using the front mounts off the rear springs found on pre 2k explorers. I got 2 sets of them and put the springs directly under the frame. 6" o...

Just a couple tidbits from when I did my swap.
I did have issues with the original lift bracket next to the diffy (for passenger beam mount). My lift used a "drop plate" for the original bracket and it hit the diffy. After replacing the diffy because of a large hole in the casting, I got a Superlift brand bracket and it just clears wit...

Do the whole front suspension!!!
You can actually swap the whole front suspension -beams, diffy, springs etc and then you will have a real durable front drivetrain. Works real well with a 4" lift at the same time. (see my post in chit chat) An 8.8 from a new generation Ranger would probably swap in easier than my Explorer axle...

Good idea....
Thanx for the tips. I'm a machinist and do a lot of work for the government - with the CNC's and other equipment at my disposal, I'm sure I can make all the rubble I currently have work for me. I like the pointed pin tip. I just envisioned myself swearing at the darn pins at the end of a long day be...

Hows the stability of it? It runs real stable offroad but without swaybars it is a pig on the road. I'm going to get the front bar back on so I can run it on the highway to go to some trail runs and things without having to trailer it. I kept eating u-joints cause of the axle wrap with the lift blo...

can you get a pic of the front mount of the traction bar? The b2 I bought blew a rear end for the same reason and I dont want it to happen agian. The mount I made is just some 1/8 wall angle iron with a hole in each face and bolted down with the spring eye bolt. Try to keep the spring eye hole as c...

It has lots of flex
The traction bars pivot from the front perch bolt of the spring and don't limit the travel a bit - just keep the diffy from wrapping the springs up and destroying the driveshaft. I jump it quite often (at least 10 times just today) and it lands real nice. I'll see if I can get a couple flex shots so...
