I was thinking of trying this out. How long has it lasted before signs of rust? will it hold out for 6 months?

Do you have any recent pics of your patch work? Where would this technique be posted?

pull the electronic shift motor out. Once you have it pulled, you will need to open it up and do a thorough cleaning. I had the same problem and now it works excellent. Here is a link which breaks it down for you ....
