Re: 88 to 89 2.9L BII 4X4 engine swap
Thanks Ranger Dave! (man of many words)
However, just to be perfectly clear.
Unbolt engine from bell housing and bolt it back to the other bell housing.
No need to worry about pilot bearings?
Correct?

88 to 89 2.9L BII 4X4 engine swap
I have an 88 BII 4X4 with an A4LD that is junk in it. However, it has a great running 2.9 in it. I've got an 89 BII 4X4 5spd with a junk 2.9 in it. I want to swap the engine out of the 88 into the 89. Am I going to run into any problems with the bell housings matching at the engine? Or is this just ...

Re: a loud thump 88 xlt b2
upon further inspection (more driving) it seems to be coming from the drivers side front.
it even actually seems to jerk (not the jerk behind the wheel) the vehicle at times, especially if it is under load.
I'm sure those tidbits of info help!
Thanks

a loud thump 88 xlt b2
I have a loud thump when going down the road...well actually it happens most anytime. when coming to a stop and just after taking off (but not every time) going downhill, uphill. It shakes the vehicle at times and at other times it is mild. The trans shifts thru the gears just fine. It's an ...

Re: A4LD reverse and overdrive not working
Somebody have a manual with the torque specs on the valve body bolts for an A4LD tranny?
Evidently it's a pretty important spec as a loose or overtightened bolt can cause shift problems/failures.

Re: A4LD reverse and overdrive not working
Sorry, I had mis-understood what the guy said.
It's going to end up costing about $80 once I send my core back.

Re: A4LD reverse and overdrive not working
Somehow I knew you were going to say that and I agree. :D I'm planning on making this my daily driver so I'm looking for the quick fix for now. I do plan on the conversion later. However, time and resources don't allow for that at the time. So, do you/anyone think the VB rebuild will take care of ...

Re: A4LD reverse and overdrive not working
Sorry, the guy I bought it from had taken it in a couple of years ago when reverse went out on it. They supposedly put in a rebuilt tranny. Reverse was still out. He took it back, they supposedly rebuilt his original tranny and put it back in. Now reverse and overdrive are out. That is how it sits ...

A4LD reverse and overdrive not working
ok another tranny question. When I bought the 88 BR2 with an A4LD in it I was told that reverse had gone out of it. He took it in to have the tranny rebuilt and when he got it back reverse and overdrive was not working. So, I've done some searching and what I'm reading is that all that needs to be ...

Re: Transmission question
I decided to go with an exact replacement. Thanks for your help.
I'm going to by a low mileage (or lower mileage anyway) from a salvage, add trans cooler.
Then rebuild my original with all updates to have lying around as a spare.
Anybody know how much one of these things weigh? Trans that is.
