Changed out the fuel filter, changed over to the larger throttle body from an 86 (wanted to do that for awhile now), changed the air flow sensor. If it's from the rear main, it will be all inside the bell housing and might take a few days to all leak out.

Have you pulled any codes from the computer yet?

Sounds to me like the sending unit is bad or maybe a ground issue, tyr to replace the sending unit first and see if that cures the problem.
