It WAS the PCV valve. Drove 20 miles on highway, little rag knotted at top of dipstick tube stayed bone dry !

Yo! I drive an '86 4WD BII, 5sp/2.9L. Winter tires are mandatory here in Québec as of Dec 15. My present ones are a bit thin. I have 2 Lee Snowtrakkers about half worn. Would it be dangerous for the drive train to combine them with 2 new ones because of diameter difference?

1986 Bronco II, 2.9 gasoline engine. Runs very vrey well, but driver's side of motor covered in motor oil. I suspect it comes from top of dipstick tube. Removed and reinstalled dipstick tube.
