Re: 1985 Carbureted 2.8, poor mileage.

I found 2 screws at the bottom front of the carb. Turned them both out 1/2 turn and instantly got a cleaner idle, exhaust isn't so potent, more bottom end power, and so far it seems like I'm getting more miles to a fillup.

Re: Disable 4wd rather that cut off u joints?

My front diff is missing several teeth on the ring gear. I just don't use 4WD intil I get it fixed. But I don't know if the late model is the same as my 85.

1985 Carbureted 2.8, poor mileage.

Well. I finished the automatic to 5 speed swap. Runs and drives great (even considering the retread mud tires.). Here's the rub: I'm getting a max of 13 mpg. Smells rich too but the catalyst was removed a long time ago. Was thinking of leaning the carb out until it pings then turning the fuel up som...

85 2.8 difficult to start after sitting

If I let my 85 sit for a couple days it gets very difficult to start first time. Lots of pumping the gas pedal and several seconds on the starter before it starts. I'm hoping it's a choke issue as it is very cold natured for the first minute or so once it does crank. I still have the original Motorc...

Rocker arm noise.

I have a light tapping noise coming from the rear of my driver side valve cover. I was told that my 2.8 is a solid lifter motor. So are the rocker arms adjustable? If so, what do I gap them to?

Re: 1985 B2 project

Got new U-joints and started putting the front drive shaft in. Discovered that my front diff is blown. Needs a new ring and pinion as well as a pinion bearing. Didn't get to finish the install as my torx bit broke off in the bolt. I'll fix the bolt, install the drive shaft, and just use the truck in...

Re: 1985 B2 project

Didn't get to the speedometer today but I did get rid of my vacuum leak as well as all the emissions junk on the right inner fender. Found a rat's nest in the blower and my fan motor is bad. Truck idles smooth and pulls strong. Got it stuck in the back of my yard trying to turn around and remembered...

Re: 1985 B2 project

My truck was originally an automatic. I'm still using the original transfer case mounted to the FM145. Do I need to pick a gear from the automatic set or manual set?

Re: 1985 B2 project

Gotta be the gear. I have 235/75/15 grips on it now. Funny thing is that it has the original transfer case and cable.
