Re: Update: Synthetic Oil...caused leaks.

Sometimes I think I'd go insane if I owned a new vehicle. That is to say,...a vehicle with no problems to diagnose and tinker with. When I first got this truck it was absolutely flawless (aside from the float in the gas tank), and I remember driving it around, looking under the hood, crawling under ...

Re: Update: Synthetic Oil...caused leaks.

All too true. I knew it was time for those leaks to begin showing up one way or another. A vehicle that age with such low mileage means it did a lot of sitting, and thusly some seals dried a bit. Truthfully the only reason I went with the synth-blend is because of the price! The Motorcraft stuff is ...

Update: Synthetic Oil...caused leaks.

Hey everyone, for those who read my post about being for or against Synthetic motor oils, I went with Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 10W-30 in my '89 BII 2.9(70K miles), and after my last change and noticed some small leaks starting to spring up. Looked to be a mix of rear main seal and a few others, al...

Re: Synthetic Motor Oil?

Right on. Hey thanks to everyone for the replies so far. Ruffinit - You nailed it. I was eyeballing those Motorcraft Synth-Blend quarts at Wal Mart alright. I'd considered just biting a bullet and going full on w/ Mobil One awhile back, but the prices greatly outweighed any hope of magically getting...

Tres irritating issues w/ my '89 BII 4X4.

1) The seat belt likes to stay slack while I'm driving. If I'm in & out enough, eventually it just hangs down out of the door jam when I open it. I'm constantly having to tug on it to get it to draw up the slack, but two minutes later it's loose again. 2) A small handful of times, the AT gearshi...

Re: sending unit float

I scored one at a junkyard for mine. Installing it as soon as I get off my arse,...that or run out of gas and get stranded. Whichever comes first. Though with my luck this one's not buoyant either. I talked to my uncles and everybody's replaced theirs at least twice. Ford needs to take notes from a ...

Re: Stripping out my grease fittings! WOO-HOOO!!

Sheesh. Yeah I pretty much have to learn everything the hard way. So here's what happened--->Those replacement fittings were indeed crap(thanks, large multinational auto parts chain who's name rhymes with 'Glad-Pants'). As stated above the stock fittings had this taper to the threading, which kinda ...

Stripping out my grease fittings! WOO-HOOO!!

Yeah so my '89 BII saw a little beach action in it's day; sand up around the linkage & embedded into the excess grease around the tie rod boots and such. Apparently whomever was doing the servicing didn't bother to wipe things down before using the grease gun because three out of four fittings w...

Re: Which is better a rebuilt or remanufactured carb?

MrD I would definitely, definitely say go with having it rebuilt by your local carb guy. I've been through multiple carb problems with different vehicles over the years, Ford and GM alike. When problems arose I always went with the rebuild based on the advice of my uncles(all mechanics), who said a ...

Re: '89 BII 2.9 lifter-tick at cold startup.

Yeah I think everyone's Gramps liked the good 'ole STP products. I'm surprised my family doesn't own stock---my Grandfather & Uncles have run a service station since 1968. Not even to mention my folks used to follow Nascar up & down the east coast and they were die-hard Richard Petty fans. H...

Re: '89 BII 2.9 lifter-tick at cold startup.

Gee thanks everybody. Apparently I need to find this Lucas fella and give him my life savings. Kidding! :D But seriously, thanks for all the replies. So far the tick is much less prominent if I start it each day. If it sits for a few days, seems to be much more pronounced. I put some STP Oil Treatme...

This a result of not being driven often?
